People really do build shelters and underground spaces. The problem is assuming every slick time-lapse on social media documents a real build.
What investigators found
Lead Stories reviewed a wave of secret-bunker construction clips in 2026 and found many were AI-generated. The videos present fantastical rapid builds as if they are ordinary real-world projects.
Don't confuse two eras
Older “primitive building” channels were already criticised for staging and hidden machinery. New generative video can now fabricate the build itself. A suspicious clip could therefore be AI, staged real footage, edited footage — or some combination.
The useful question
Don't ask only “Can AI make this?” Ask: who uploaded it first, is there continuous evidence of the build, do materials and geometry remain consistent, and is there independent evidence the structure exists?
