Chop the Slop is designed to work without an account. Saved scan history is stored in your browser's local storage on your device.

Photos

The ingredient-photo reader used by this version runs in the browser. The page does not intentionally send your selected label image to a Chop the Slop server.

Barcode lookups

When you check a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts public product API so the product can be looked up.

Clear your history

You can remove locally saved history by clearing this site's browser storage/data.

Tips and corrections

If you use Send Us Some Slop or submit a correction, we collect the link, note and any optional email address you provide. These submissions are processed through Netlify and are used to review the claim or respond where appropriate. Please do not submit private or sensitive information.

Email updates

If you join The Slop Report, we collect the email address you submit so we can manage the list and send Chop the Slop updates. Form submissions are processed through our hosting provider, Netlify. We do not sell your email address. You can ask to be removed from the list at any time.

Browser tools

The scanner loads third-party browser libraries for barcode reading and text recognition. Their delivery may involve normal web requests to the content-delivery networks hosting those libraries.
